Summer in New Jersey means shore weekends, sports practices, road trips, and a car that takes a beating. Heat and UV are working against your interior every single day, and everything from pollen to boardwalk sand ends up inside the cabin. Here is what I tell my Morris County customers every summer.
1. Do Not Let Spills Sit in the Heat
A spilled iced coffee in July is a different animal than one in January. Heat accelerates staining and odor. Blot spills immediately with a clean towel, and if a stain sets, carpet shampooing and upholstery extraction can usually pull it back out.
2. Protect Your Dash and Seats from UV
UV exposure fades and cracks dashboards, door panels, and seats over time. Park in shade when you can, use a windshield sunshade, and keep interior surfaces cleaned and dressed. My interior detail includes full dashboard, console, and panel detailing that keeps surfaces conditioned.
3. Rinse Off Pollen and Bug Splatter Quickly
Pollen is acidic and bug remains etch into paint when baked by the sun. A proper hand wash with a pH-balanced foam removes them safely without scratching. Every exterior detail I do includes bug removal and a spray wax layer that makes the next cleanup easier.
4. Deal with Beach Sand the Right Way
Sand grinds into carpet fibers like sandpaper. A household vacuum rarely gets it all. Professional-grade vacuums and compressed air get sand out of seat rails, vents, and crevices before it wears down your carpet.
5. Keep the AC Smelling Fresh
Musty AC smell usually comes from moisture and debris in the vents. Steam sanitization and compressed air vent cleaning knock out the odor at the source instead of masking it with air fresheners.
6. The Shade Trade-Off
Parking under a tree protects your dash from UV but trades it for sap, pollen, and bird droppings, all of which are worse for paint than sunshine is. A garage or carport wins every time if you have the option. If the choice is tree or open sun, take the tree in spring and the open spot in high summer, and rinse sap spots before they bake in. A windshield sunshade captures most of the UV benefit without the sticky tax.
